This has been a really exciting week. I finalized my new logo design on 99 designs (https://99designs.com) and couldn’t be happier with it! It was a fantastic creative experience and made me nostalgic for my 6 hour long critique sessions, 3 times a week in college.
I also entered into a contest I’m really excited about called “One Life”, hosted by Artists Wanted, a great NYC based organization that connects artists with an international audience. I’ve submitted some of my most cherished images from when I was in India in 2008, assisting for Nisha Sondhe (www.nishasondhe.com) on several amazing projects. We were there for 2 months shooting several jobs, including Delhi Fashion Week and a campaign for Delhi based Couture designer, Tarun Tahiliani (http://www.taruntahiliani.com/), a celebrity wedding at the Lake Palace in Udaipur (where they filmed James Bond, Octopussy) and DJ Rehka for the launch of Rolling Stone India. It was a whirlwind couple of months, but what helped keep it grounded was staying with Nisha’s family as much as we could all over India. Staying in peoples homes as opposed to in hotels, is my favorite way to travel. Eating genuine home cooked meals and drinking tea and catching up about your day in a family living room beats a fancy resort any day for me. The images submitted to the “One life” contest are my quiet observations from that really special time in my life, right out of college and working in the industry. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do and if you feel so inclined, follow this link, Heather Gallagher, to “Collect Me” to help me win a New York City photo exhibition and a$25,000 cash grant.
Nicole and I had a great time shooting these Senior portraits down at Zilker park. She is a recent 2012 graduate who is so beautiful, interesting and fun and was so comfortable in front of the camera! Nicole volunteers so much of her free time at local kids camps and animal shelters; I actually first met her while she was volunteering for Canines & Cats, an amazing animal rescue shelter where we adopted our canine son, Hugo. Thanks for such a fun session!
Here’s some of my favorites from my recent mini session with super fun brother and sister, Bea and Ezra. We hung out in south Austin and had a blast playing dress up and just being goofy. Thanks for a great time, guys!
New city, new house, new ‘tude= new blog!
It’s been a big year for us so far and it’s not even over yet. After 9 years in Brooklyn, NY it was time to shake things up and move out (south) west. My dear husband took an amazing leap of faith with me and we completely changed our lives by relocating to Austin, TX 8 months ago. It has been so amazing building a new life together from scratch here. Completely scary and overwhelming at times, but empowering to know that we can change our course whenever and however we want if we decide to. We’ve made some wonderful friends, adopted our canine son, Hugo, who we are insanely in love with and are enjoying spending time on the front porch playing cards (and still pinching ourselves that we have a front porch)!
The above collage is a snapshot of the last 8 months of our lives. Mad props to Sara, our NYC street kitty, who took the 2,000 mile road trip with us.
Check back soon for updates as I continue to make Austin and this blog my new home.
