I loved my shoot yesterday with this gorgeous mother and son in Hyde Park. Sarah is a wonderful acupuncturist & nutritionist who did wonders for me and my “oh my god, what’s happening to me” pregnancy back pain and Woods, is her stunning alllmost 2 year old who I’ve had the pleasure of watching grow since he was just 2 months. “Just Because” sessions are one of my favorite things to shoot because they are a little slice of life and show you the beauty in the everyday. I came across this lovely Huffington Post post last night that I think summed it up perfectly, “As I’ve often said, you think you’ll remember every key moment of your kids’ lives — but you won’t. Oddly enough, I can recall the theme song to “Gilligan’s Island” but I find it nearly impossible to draw out of cold storage a memory of my oldest kid’s first bike ride. Didn’t he used to hate eggs? I don’t know. I really can’t remember”. Already, only 8 months in to motherhood, I find myself struggling to remember what it felt like to hold my son when he was an itty bitty (for those of you who have not met my son, he did not stay itty bitty for long) and how much hair he had at birth. I noticed his first tooth officially coming in (actually my nipple noticed for me) the other day and well, I ugly cried for about 2 minutes.
I captured Sarah and Woods on a typical morning home together where they played in the yard in his new tee pee, looked for Penny the cat, and read some of his favorite books (currently his most favorite is “The Stray Dog”) on his new big boy bed. Here are some of my favorites from our session. Thanks for having me!
Oh the weather outside is … not frightful, it’s actually quite delightful! Winter in Texas is usually pretty mild but lately it’s been bordering on spring like! What better time to book a “just because” mini session with Heather Gallagher Photography? Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason to celebrate the everyday!
They say that in parenthood, the days last forever but the years fly by. Case in point, Ari, who I’ve been photographing since birth (literally) just turned one and I’m realizing that my little one is nipping at his heels. Whoa.
Nichole and Will, Ari’s incredible parents, put on fête fit for the prince that Ari is with a sweet “Where the Wild Things Are” theme complete with crowns for all their guests and charming details all throughout. I’ve said it before but it bears repeating that Ari really is one of the sweetest little boys I’ve known and it’s always such a lovely experience being around and photographing him.
Here are some of my favorites from this lovely celebration filled with family, friends and monsters of all sizes!
The Grahams know how to ring in the New Year like no one else. Diana and Michael welcomed their gorgeous, perfect, delicate, sweet baby girl, Cora Lorraine to the world on New Years Eve and they invited me to photograph her first 48 hours of life as a daughter, grand daughter and little sister. I started photographing the Grahams when Diana was pregnant with Eli and have been thrilled to be asked back to document so many great moments in their lives together as a new family. It feels like just yesterday I was shooting Eli’s first birthday and he’s going to be 2 this March! I’m happy to report that everyone is doing well and look forward to continuing to document this lovely, growing family.
