I know who wins the prize for best husband (along with my husband, Tim, of course). Unbeknownst to me, this family portrait session was booked as a Mother’s Day surprise for his beautiful wife who was 5 days away from delivering their second son and third child and it was one of my favorites to date. When I showed up to their family home in Round Rock, their 5 year old son ran to the door and pressed his face up to the glass and dad greeted me with a smile and wearing a t-shirt with bold letters that read “I love my wife”. Immediately, these sweet siblings ran to show me their new brothers room and proceeded to give me a tour of the rest of the house. Not that I need any more reason to love this family but one thing of note is that they have an extra bed in the house reserved just for jumping. GENIUS.
I love spending any amount of time with a family that allows me to quietly document their lives but it was especially nice to have two hours as it allowed us time to play, change clothes and take a walk to the park for some more formal portraits. Here are some of my favorites from this very special Mother’s Day Surprise with this beautiful, growing family and I can’t wait to meet their new addition who was born on my sons birthday!
I was so excited to be asked to photograph the 4th annual “Pink Mahal Party” at the always awesome Whip In this past weekend. Nothing goes better with warm weather, good friends and the laid back South Austin vibe that you can only get in Travis Heights than a glass (or bottle…) of dry rosé. Rae Wilson, who I recently photographed at her Dandy Rosé release party at Lenoir, curated this event and alongside the friendly staff, poured patrons various selections from all over the globe while they noshed on some of Whip In’s notoriously delicious appetizers. Here are some of my favorites
I love when I have an opportunity to capture multiple generations in one session. In this sweet morning shoot at Zilker Park, I photographed Austin locals, Marisa and her sixteen month old daughter, Laila and Marisa’s mother and sister who were in town from Illinois. Laila is a spirited child with an adventurous soul. Between all the blowing bubbles, off leash dogs and the big tractors mowing the grass, there was no end to the distractions to run towards so when she discovered the big mud puddle, it was no surprise she wanted to dive right in. Lucky for her (and me), her awesome mom, aunt and grandma weren’t put off one bit by the thought of her doing her thing in that crisp white dress.
Here are some of my favorites from our fun portrait session, just in time for Mother’s Day.
Jenni and I had emailed back and forth a few times planning this shoot. She was pregnant with her 3rd baby; her son, Jonah, and knew she wanted portraits of him and her family at home, where he was born, but didn’t know exactly when he would be arriving. Ten days later she emailed me “the baby is here”! I got goosebumps and we scheduled our shoot immediately.
When I arrived at their home in South Austin, I was greeted by her sweet husband, Tim, six year old Owen and 4 year old Ayla. Owen quickly showed me his camera, a blue plastic one that also played video games (jealous) and Ayla led me to her parents room where Jenni and Jonah were laying in bed, the same one he was born in just ten days before.
This was a special shoot because it was the first time Ayla and Owen got to hold their new baby brother, and boy were they so excited! So much so, Owen, who went first held his breath the entire time and Ayla kept asking if it was her turn yet.
Here are some of my favorites from this quiet Sunday morning with the Augustine family.
