She’s from Vietnam, he’s from California. They met as students at UT and fell in love with each other and Austin. Three years ago, they put a love lock on the pedestrian bridge and then moved away from their favorite city for work. Over Labor Day weekend, they came back for what she thought was just a visit. They walked the bridge at sunset and searched for their lock. Then he asked her to marry her and she said yes.
I was so honored to be asked to capture this surprise proposal and am so excited to finally share my favorites from this awesome session. Congrats, Anthony & Dung!
I knew I was going to be excited for this job but even I surprised myself with how much I couldn’t wait for Tuesday to come. Merissa, Brittney’s best friend and Nicholas, Brittney’s now fiancé, had planned the most elaborate surprise wedding proposal and they asked me to play along in the ruse and document it. It all took place at Pinot’s Palette, a fun painting studio where you drink wine and learn to paint alongside your friends. Brittney has always wanted to take a class here and so knowing that, Merissa and Nick coordinated with the owners of the studio and the painting instructor to have the place all to themselves (with the exception of myself and husband, Tim playing the role of customers and a photographer updating the studio’s website). This allowed me to freely photograph during the class and on the instructors cue, when she asked if she could get the classes opinion on a different version of the painting we all just did, I went to the front of the class to capture Brittney’s reaction. The canvas said “Brittney, will you marry me?” and there was not a dry eye in the room, including my sweet husband’s who discreetly recorded the whole thing on his phone. Obviously, she said “yes”. 🙂
Nicholas was so thoughtful in his planning of this event that he even told Brittney to pack a nice outfit so he could take her out for a nice dinner after the class. What she didn’t know is that she would be surprised by her friends and family at the restaurant to celebrate their engagement. Well done, Sir.
I am so glad that I always keep an umbrella in my car, it made for such a great prop! Here are some of my favorites from this amazing day that I was so honored to be asked to be a part of. Congratulations, you guys!!
I love these guys. Okay, I’m biased… they are good friends of mine and their dog and my dog are bestie’s (it’s adorable), but still, I love these guys. Ashley is the most wonderfully goofy person I know and Tyler is a thoughtful man of few words, and together they make a perfectly balanced couple who love the simple things- good food, good friends and good times. I am sooo looking forward to their upcoming wedding, that I also have the honor of photographing, this Thanksgiving in Austin. Here are my favorites from our recent engagement shoot.
